About

Richard Propes (disability and trauma activist) and star of the documentary The Tenderness Tour

Recently, Richard partnered with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt for his 34th Tenderness Tour, wheeling over 150 miles on Indiana’s scenic trails and communities to raise money to alleviate medical debt.

When he launched The Tenderness Tour, Richard wheeled to find out if there truly were good people in the world, trying to heal his own childhood trauma. As he wheeled and healed, he discovered he was a powerful activist making a lasting impact in the lives of many.

In THE TENDERNESS TOUR, Richard launches another tour post-cancer recovery – with mixed enthusiasm from his chosen family. He wheels over 150 miles on Indiana’s scenic trails and communities to raise money to alleviate medical debt.

On his journey, Richard discovers real people struggling to overcome their own medical debt through no fault of their own. He interviews experts to learn more about why Americans have medical debt in the first place. Richard learns some lessons about fundraising and how he needs to rely more on his community to expand his reach. He also takes notes from the Amish and how they manage medical care in their community without the need for insurance.

Richard also explores his own history of childhood sexual assault and a suicide attempt while homeless from medical– the entire reason he started THE TENDERNESS TOUR  in the first place.

Ultimately, Richard leans into love and discovers

he’s the good people he’s been looking for.
